Toxic - Britney Spears

The pinnacle of 2000's pop: it's Britney b***. You might ask: but why does someone like you who enjoys music like you do, and who dares calls himself an audiophile recommend Toxic as song to listen today?

It's easy: when the chorus starts at 0:57 there's this very subtle 'ride' cymbal (Google it) mixed in the left channel. It was only until I listened to this song with a good pair of headphones that I first noticed this. There's this term called 'detail retrieval' or 'technicalities' that audiophiles like to throw around. It's when you can hear the plucking of a guitar string, the subtle thump of a bass drum and other details like that (the ride cymbal!). There's more songs with subtle details like this, but never would I have expected details like this to pop out in a pop song like this.

I might just do an entire blogpost about my speaker testing tracks soon. Maybe, if I find the time. For now, enjoy Britney!
