Today I want to talk about 'Intertextuality', invented when one literary work referenced another (mostly one work referring to the Bible), but more recently one piece of art referring to another piece of art, not necessarily them being the same type of art: music referencing paintings or movies or something else entirely.

I've always liked these 'hidden' messages like these. And today's song is a prime example of one of those. Maya Hawke, you might know her from Stranger Things, or you might know her as the daughter of Uma Thurman, or you might know her as being a recording artist having 3 studio albums, talks about Therese, a girl from a painting:

Balthus, Thérèse dreaming, 1938

A song referencing a painting. Intertextuality. And here I am, a blogpost, referencing a song, referencing a painting. Inception! Look at that, yet another example of intertextuality: that was me referencing the movie 'Inception'. How deep the rabbit hole goes. Oh yet another example: Alice in Wonderland! I love how artists reference other artists like this, and the public gets references like this. I love 'intertextuality'. And I like this song. I hope you like it too! Enjoy!
